Henry Thane, a wealthy businessman who owned several banks in southeast Arkansas, commissioned the well-known Little Rock architect Charles L. Thompson to design his house on this spot, one block from the Mississippi River. This is one of Thompson’s finer Craftsman designs and unusual for its long, horizontal composition. The red brick one-and-a-half-story house has a bay window, a red tile gabled roof, and dormers with false half-timbering. The house stands out in a town of mostly frame buildings.
