Updated Prairie Style in red brick trimmed with concrete, this understated structure has wide, overhanging eaves from a flat roof sheltering clerestory window bands. The building's composition as a series of linear pavilions one and two stories tall, its varied setbacks and roof heights, and its prominent cantilevered roofs create interesting shadow patterns. The library is reminiscent of the architect's Denver Public Library Ross-Broadway Branch ( DV073). Around the corner at 1633 Florence Street is Hornbein's Aurora Mental Health Center (1978), with his distinctive flat roof and cantilevered eaves stretching into entry canopies.
