In a city park along the Rio Grande, the Chamber of Commerce operates this tourist center in a replica of the second D&RG Alamosa depot, which burned down on Christmas Day in 1907. This clapboard Queen Anne model combining passenger and freight depots is similar to the depots in Crested Butte, Mancos, and other towns, which used the same basic plan although each depot received some individualized ornament. Crested, high-pitched roofs with flared and bracketed eaves cover this gabled structure. The square trackside bay rises into a large dormer so the stationmaster could watch the tracks from his second-story living quarters. D&RG narrow-gauge engine 169, an 1870 Baldwin steam locomotive with a diamond stack and a wooden cow catcher, is on exhibit with an 1880 sleeping car.
