Monument Headquarters (Superintendent's Residence)

-A A +A
Superintendent's Residence
1939, WPA (Kenneth Saunders). Colorado 150 (NR)

This one-story adobe structure resembling Territorial Style buildings exemplifies the National Park Service predilection for vernacular, rustic structures built of local materials. A WPA project designed by a team from the Santa Fe regional office led by architect Kenneth Saunders, it includes a walled courtyard and entrance station, overseen by a long veranda on the side of the house. The low gable roofs have protruding vigas. The former living room has been converted to the superintendent's office.
