“The Old Stone Church,” perhaps the most outstanding of the town's historic sandstone buildings, was built by the stoneworkers who worshipped here, led by their fellow mason and pastor, the Reverend Henry Harris. Twenty-inch-thick walls of hand-cut block rise from a stone foundation. A 42-foot-tall square tower at the southeast corner, distinguished by irregular coursing, houses the entrance, recessed into a round arch with radiating voussoirs. A corbeled course supports the frame-enclosed belfry, which is topped by a swordlike finial.
