The most imposing facade in town consists of large display windows with patterned sill plates and a recessed doorway framed by cast iron pilasters from the Colorado Iron Works in Denver. Arched second-story windows have stained glass lunettes. A high metal cornice has ornate end brackets and a decorated frieze beneath a central pediment. Hanchett made his money from the Lamartine Mine and constructed this building as income property, while living in the two-and-one-half-story brick house at 1003 Colorado Boulevard (1890).
