Mon-Ark Shrine Club (Laura Evans Parlor House)

-A A +A
Laura Evans Parlor House
c. 1900. 129 W. Sackett Ave.

Laura Evans, who lived to the age of ninety, ran a “female boarding house” from the 1890s to 1950 in this plain, two-story, red brick building. Stucco now coats the facade and the bulging stone window trim, banding, and cornice. The one-story frame apartments across the street contain six small rooms used by Madam Evans's less popular boarders. The Shriners have converted the notorious bordello to their temple.
