Heart of the Rockies Medical Center (Railroad Hospital)

Of extensive railroad facilities in Salida, this is one of the few remnants, built and sustained for decades by monthly deductions from railroad workers' paychecks. Today the building is the centerpiece of a regional medical center. The two-story beige brick edifice has classical brick quoins, fluted cast iron porch columns, a balustrade surmounting the porch, and a garland frieze. Landscaped grounds with two fine antique fountains help incorporate newer two-story wings.
