Eighteen rustic cabins along the Conejos River are clustered around a two-story, hewn log lodge with gable roof and shed additions. The lodge's sunken corner fireplace of rubblestone is surrounded by rustic rocking chairs, on a ground floor whose unevenness is attributed to winter heaving. Complex roof framing highlights a slab-sided addition at the southwest corner with a south sun-room bay that has been extended to the second floor. A stairway of half logs, with a balustrade of peeled branches, leads to the upstairs living quarters. The 15-acre dude ranch was started by Gladys, Dutch, and Hazel Menke, daughters of a local businessman. Two of them briefly basked in vaudeville glory on Broadway and later brought entertainment stars to their ranch as guests and performers.
