Potato Patch Club and Condominiums

-A A +A
1978, Pierce, Briner and Scott. 950 Red Sandstone Rd.

On what was once a south-facing hillside potato farm, this collection of town houses climbs a steep hill across I-70 from Vail Village. Exaggerated shed roofs and arched chimney covers update the Alpine Style. In an effort to keep housing affordable, Vail required homebuilders in portions of the Potato Patch and Sunburst Drive on the south side of the Vail Valley Golf Course to construct attached secondary residences half the size of the primary residence. An example of this “low-income” housing is the Gary Bossow House (1984, Robert K. Fuller), 758 Potato Drive. Fuller, a fourth-generation member of Denver's pioneer Roeschlaub-Fuller firm, used vertical redwood planks for this multilevel duplex.
