The Agate Hotel, a leftover from Agate's days as a passenger stop on the Union Pacific Railroad, was built as a house by Minnie Peterson. The two-story, stuccoed brick building with a hipped roof is one of the few four-squares in the county. When the Great Depression and dust storms swept down on the area, Minnie Peterson converted her residence to a boarding house. Today the hotel stands unoccupied and decaying behind a chipped, faded sign.
