Onaledge, Rockledge, and Craftwood Inn

These three Arts and Crafts houses are stone-faced with Neo-Tudor detailing and stucco and half timbering. Onaledge, with its splendid hardwood interior and terrace garden, is now a bed and breakfast. It had originally served as a guest house for Rockledge, which remains secluded and is just visible over a rise from the road. Rolland Bautwell, an Englishman devoted to the ideas of John Ruskin, also designed the Craftwood Inn (1912), 404 El Paso Boulevard, as a sales showroom for his copper work. Since 1940 this small Manitou green-stone structure has been a fine restaurant, specializing in wild game. Uncoursed walls are topped with a clipped gable roof and are half-timbered in the gable ends. Inside the Craftwood Inn, leaded glass windows, beamed ceilings, the original fireplace hood, and several small lanterns reflect Bautwell's craftsmanship.
