During the first week in August the Grand Lake Yacht Club hosts the world's highest official yacht regatta. “Snotty yachties,” as locals put it, incorporated the club in 1902 and began racing here for the Lipton Cup in 1913 after the English tea baron, Sir Thomas Lipton, donated a sterling silver cup. The two-and-one-half-story clubhouse and anchorage is a dark, weathered wooden structure that aspires to Victorian rusticity, with clapboard on the first floor, vertical slab log siding on the second, and multipane casement windows in sets of threes. An enclosed observation deck tops the double-decker waterfront porch.
