This combined federal and post office building is a typically eclectic example of late Beaux-Arts classicism. The building is constructed in reinforced concrete on a steel skeleton over a concrete foundation. The first floor is veneered in sandstone, and the upper floors are faced in light tan brick spotted black with manganese and applied ornament of cast stone, terracotta, and cast iron. A flat roof replaces the original hipped roof. Six pairs of grand pilasters at the second- and third-floor levels carry a Doric-derived triglyph and metope frieze and separate bays of paired windows with relief spandrels.
