A fairytale lesson in preservation perseverance is this single-story yellow brick house with a Mission Revival red tile roof and round-arched windows in a modified U plan. It may set new standards for fast food restaurant chains invading residential neighborhoods. At the urging of the Fort Collins Planning Department, Taco Bell remodeled the home of lumber magnate Irl Mawson rather than demolish it and erect the chain's standard “Santa Fake”–style eatery. The Mawson House's fine arched side windows have become order and pickup stations, with the company logo on a discreet front yard sign. Inside, the original fireplace, oak front door, and picture window are preserved.
