United Methodist Church

-A A +A
1880s, 1920s?. Northeast corner of Grand Ave. (U.S. 160) and Oak St.

With unusual flourish, a curvilinear parapet fronts this Mission Revival church, culminating in an open belfry with a domed cap. Smooth stucco walls emphasize the molded detail along the parapet, and an arcaded portico protects the entrance. An aging brick rear chimney suggests that this was an old brick church “southwesternized” in more recent decades. Unusually tasteful design extends to the front yard sculpture—three crosses made of steel I beams.
