This new “Victorian” is very sympathetic to its elderly neighbors. One modern touch—a third-story penthouse—is recessed and inconspicuous. A few doors away, at 630 Main Street, less successful modernization transformed the old Chipeta Theater into the Chipeta Emporium (1991). The theater is now hidden behind a grandiose three-story facade with a gaudy paint scheme, Palladian windows, sunburst pattern wood-work, and other pseudo-Victorian gingerbread of a Disneylandish mini-mall.
