Gerald Hines, the Texas developer well known as a patron of architecture, commissioned one of Aspen's most widely acclaimed new houses. Moore and Turnbull, who pioneered the Mineshaft Modern style, sited this home on Hunter Creek and built it with local materials around a huge spruce tree. Like many Aspen homes, this is a “party house” with many guest suites. Local architects consider it an important step in the development of an indigenous style that responds to both the setting and Aspen's mining town traditions.
