Rio Grande County Museum

This single-story contemporary musuem has an irregular plan of rectangular spaces under flat roofs that draws on traditional adobe construction. Stuccoed frame walls enclose wings and bays that extend from a narrow, clerestoried, central-gabled gallery opening onto east and south walled courtyards. The south side gallery is a glass wall opening onto a Spanish-style courtyard with slat-roofed loggias supported by peeled log columns. Architect Jack Rominger, a Del Norte native retired from an architectural practice in Palo Alto, California, designed this small museum for artifacts of Native American, Hispanic, and Euro-American cultures.
