One of the largest early smelters is a ruin today. Near remnants of a smelter stack, a hillside powder house (1872) remains, built of super-strong brick supposedly brought from Swansea, Wales. Ore processing efforts here were undermined by newer, improved smelters elsewhere and by the hostile climate at 10,800 feet.
