The Mollie Kathleen mine surrendered more than $2 million from its ten levels after Mollie Kathleen Gertner opened it in 1891. Since it switched to mining tourists' pockets in the 1950s, it has become a popular mine tour. Visitors ride the “skip” 1,000 feet underground to inspect a hard rock gold mine, now owned by a grand-son of Verner Z. Reed, who was one of Cripple Creek's millionaires.
