One of Greeley's most exuberant frame houses, a three-story Colonial Revival mansion with columns on both the east entry and semicircular sitting porches and paneled corner pilasters. was built for Samuel H. Southard, who moved to Greeley in 1877. Palladian windows in the roof dormers and an enriched cornice complete the detailing. In contrast, the White-Plumb Farm-house (1906), 4001 10th Street, also by Bessie Smith, is a simple frame vernacular construction.
