Joes (1912, 4,270 feet) was established by C. N. and Joseph White, who named it Three Joes for three men by that name among the small band of settlers. The post office shortened it to Joes. Its Mennonite Brethren Church is a picturesque prairie frame church in the German tradition. An unusual full-length front porch gives it the air of a boarding-house and divides the first floor from the gabled second story, with its two Gothic-arched windows below a small rose window. Painted the traditional white, the church is not as well kept as a tidy adjacent cemetery.
