Ninole Post Office

The smallest post office in Hawaii, this 10 × 12–foot, single-wall building holds 180 postboxes. The lanai, from which all business is conducted, is protected by a bank of four windows. The post office was moved from the Hilo side of Ninole to its present location in 1937, and since that time has been closely associated with the Aguiar family. Celestine Aguiar ran the post office from 1937 until 1978. In 1989, when it was converted to a contract station, her daughter-in-law Phyllis Aguiar assumed responsibility for its operation.
