Proceeding east of Sigourney on Iowa 92 one comes upon the Flander Farm complex (c. 1900). Here there are two classic midwestern barn types side by side. One of these is a wooden structure with a steeply pitched gable roof, accompanied by a low shed-roofed appendage; the other, to the left, is a barn with a gambrel roof, topped at the ridge by a monitor with a gable roof, and spreading out over the ground with shelters topped by low-pitched shed roofs.
