Cedar Creek (Casper) Covered Bridge
1883, H. P. Jones, builder. Proceed on gravel road leaving from the northeast corner of Winterset, travel on this gravel road toward the east side of Winterset City Reservoir, 1.8 miles.
This is a single-span flat-roofed bridge of the Towne lattice type of structure. The Cedar Creek bridge was built by H. P. Jones over the North River. In 1920 the bridge was moved to its present location over Cedar Creek. The Towne latticework bridge structure was invented by the Connecticut architect/engineer Ethiel Towne. He patented this design in 1820, and examples of this type of bridge structure were built throughout the country in the middle to late nineteenth century.
