The 1840s form of this two-story brick house was mildly Italianate. The walls were treated in an unusual fashion. They were divided into arched bays by pilasters that were doubled at the top and then emerged into a single pilaster below. The 1884 remodeling added what is unquestionably the most assertive Italianate brackets and entablature to be found in the state. Every detail at this point is thick in dimension and elaborate in contour and cutin detailing.
