Farther down Broadway at the northwest corner of Broadway and Dye streets is the W. J. Way house, a Queen Anne dwelling built according to a design by the Knoxville, Tennessee, architect George F. Barber. The second-floor porch over the entrance has a gable roof supported by a single turned wood column in the middle, a design feature that Barber seems to have favored. As with many Queen Anne houses, the exuberant porches, bays, and towers, and the luxury of wood ornamentation is basically confined to the street facade. The sides and rear are relatively plain, except for the decoration of the roofscape, particularly the gable ends.
