Cedar Falls Starch Company Mill (John Forrest Oatmeal Mill)

This utilitarian three-story brick mill was built in three stages over a period of 10 years. The unadorned brickwork walls are punctured by a few small double-hung windows. From the 1860s on through the early 1900s, the building was used for milling and other operations. After 1910 its space and power were employed in the production of brooms. By the late nineteenth century there were a number of mill structures at Cedar Falls that took advantage of river power; today this mill is the only one surviving. The building has recently been converted to a restaurant (The Old Broom Factory Restaurant).
