The upper floors of these contiguous stone-and-brick business blocks remain basically unaltered. Each of the small buildings establishes its own personality through its individual pattern of windows and pilasters, and above all through its entablatures and cornices. Though the later continuous metal roof and canopy over the public sidewalk may be functional, they don't aesthetically help the buildings themselves.
