The Bentonsport bridge spans the Des Moines River on four limestone piers. The iron bridge itself is a variation on the Pratt truss bridge, a type invented in 1844 by Caleb Pratt and built extensively throughout the Midwest. The open, lacy design is enhanced by the open horizontal girders and the crisscross bridge railing. The bridge is now open only to foot traffic.
