This project arose from a national design competition sponsored by the nonprofit organization Global Green International following Hurricane Katrina. It occupies part of a block abutting the Mississippi River and currently consists of five houses and a fourteen-unit apartment building. A goal of the project was to act as a catalyst for rebuilding sustainably. The houses, based on the New Orleans shotgun form, have galleries and porches, with solar panels fitted on their shed roofs. The project had difficulty with construction costs, similar to the Make It Right Houses (OR57), and the New York City-based designers struggled to understand the local conditions. But the sustainable design goals have been achieved and the buildings are LEED Platinum certified.
