Architect and Gothic scholar, Cram designed this chapel for the orphanage operated by the Society of St. John the Evangelist, now the Germaine Lawrence School, and an Episcopal secondary school. Norman in style and severity, the single nave ends in a semi-circular chancel; two porches at the north and south sides of the west end provide entrance. Stained glass from the Charles Connick Studio dimly lights the interior, and sculptural elements from the fifteenth century on ornament the walls of field-stones gathered from the site. The chapel should be compared with Cram's designs for the Convent of St. John the Evangelist in Cambridge, Ellingwood Chapel (NH2) in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Nahant, and the private chapel that Cram built on the grounds of his country house (both SD2) in Sudbury.
