36–46 2nd Street

The Greek Revival style dominated during the peak period of East Cambridge development, as represented by these town houses opposite the Middlesex County Buildings (EC13). Local builder Jesse A. Hall erected a row of stylish middle-class houses. Constructed of wood with brick party walls, they are built into the side of a hill with basement kitchens that opened out onto backyards. There are two formal rooms on the first floor and five bedrooms on the second. Ionic columns supporting a full entablature shelter recessed entrances. The gable roof at each end of the block of houses forms a full pediment.
