Part of the South Station Transportation Center (FD26) area redevelopment project, the South Postal Annex fronting the Fort Point Channel conveys a streamlined image, not usually associated with the present postal service. The setting reinforces associations with 1930s ocean liners, as do the circular openings and projecting exhaust ducts (although access to the rail lines was the reason for building here). Clad in dark gray aluminum, the low-slung exterior is strengthened by white and yellow horizontal bands. Open seven days a week with liberal hours, the Fort Point Station is the salvation for income tax procrastinators.
