The last operating drive-in movie theater in Maryland has all the features associated with the type—illuminated sign at the roadside, ticket booths, an operations building including concession stand, restrooms, and a projection booth, and careful site planning including one-way lanes and parking along berms to facilitate views of the big screen. Its designer, architectural engineer Vogel, was a prolific designer of drive-ins. This drive-in, constructed and operated for decades by his brother Hank Vogel, was part of their small family-run theater chain of both indoor and drive-in theaters. Bengies is still owned and operated by the Vogel family.
