Luther L. Wright High School

-A A +A
1924–1925, Croft and Boerner. 600 Ayer St.

The design of the large, earth-colored brick school pays academic attention to classical detail. The three-story building has a central pedimented entrance pavilion with an elaborate Spanish Baroque doorway embellished with intricate designs in yellowish-white and blue terra-cotta. Above the entrance is a triple-arched window. The school was planned by Croft and Boerner of Minneapolis to be of fireproof construction and large enough for 1,400 pupils. Peter J. Nickel constructed it. It was named for the first superintendent of schools in Ironwood.
