William J. Murphy of the Minneapolis Tribune purchased the riparian rights for the river, and the Manistique Pulp and Paper Company constructed this dam and flume. The reinforced-concrete flume is 160 feet wide, 28 feet high and 3,300 feet long, and runs parallel to the Manistique River. It has a carrying capacity of eight thousand cubic feet of water per second. Standing at the head of the flume is the concrete dam. Five radial gates control the flow of water into the flume, and six control the flow from the river. It runs from the northeast to the southwest.
