Built as a Dairy Queen by owner Edd McElroy, this building sports a distinctive ice-cream-cone rooftop sign. The glazed three-sided storefront allows customers to observe the preparation of their burgers, fries, and shakes. Three aluminum sash windows open for cashiers to take orders; African Americans could only use the side window until service was integrated in the 1960s. The brick veneer and low mansard roof are additions. It is typical of roadside drive-in refreshment stands of the 1950s.
