In 1887, the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad, later part of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad (the Frisco), established Amory as a locomotive-servicing stop midway between Memphis and Birmingham. The Frisco’s former Southern Division two-story office building now serves as the City Hall. Its horizontal emphasis, with brick spandrels and bands of metal-sash windows, is typical of the International Style. A steam locomotive with a tender is displayed on the grounds. Across Main Street at number 105–107, the four-story, former Park Hotel (1926), now a commercial building, once served train passengers and features colorful diaper-pattern brickwork.
