This Moderne school startles in its small town setting with its stark smooth walls, steel ribbon windows, and strong horizontal lines. Its E plan follows a standardized scheme. The building was completed after Town left the firm for his native Louisiana. Nonetheless, the confident rendering of its modern forms compares well with other Overstreet and Town schools, including Columbia High School (PW44). Unlike that building, however, Durant’s structure is not monolithic poured concrete but concrete block covered with stucco.
