The design for the McCormick house was inspired by earlier houses in Lock Haven. The five-bay house has a low hipped roof, attic-story windows separated by brackets, and an elegantly framed doorway. The flush vertical siding distinguishes this house from similar brick houses in Lock Haven, as does its unusual site. Great Island, settled c. 1768, is a scenic 280-acre island at the confluence of the West Branch Susquehanna River and Bald Eagle Creek.
