The Towers Victorian Inn (Jerome Powell House)

-A A +A
Jerome Powell House
1865–1868. 330 South St.

This two-story frame Italianate house was built by the local newspaper editor, business tycoon, and first mayor of Ridgway, Jerome Powell. It has been beautifully preserved and now functions as a bed-and-breakfast. The round-arched wall dormer in the house's central bay contains a circular window, while the glazed belvedere at the apex of the roof is topped with a finial. In the 1890s, the Hyde-Murphy Company added oak Ionic columns, cherry paneling, and parquet floors to the interior. Center and South streets have several imposing frame houses like this one terraced above the commercial district, with schools and churches interspersed.
