Constructed by Reading Steel Products, this one-lane suspension bridge, rare in the region, uses prestretched wire rope cables manufactured by New Jersey's John A. Roebling's Sons Company. The cables are supported by thirty-nine-foot steel towers with a stiffening truss. The bridge spans the Raystown Branch, which connects the Raystown Dam and the Juniata River. It replaces an earlier bridge, washed away in the 1936 flood. Prestretched wire technology was developed in the 1930s by Roebling's Sons Company to eliminate slack created by the wire rope twisting process and to facilitate precise measurement of the cables.
