Coolspring General Store (Lafayette Shaffer's General Merchandise Store)
1904. 369 Coolspring Rd. (PA 3018)
As if frozen in 1904, this two-and-one-half-story, white frame general store retains all the elements associated with the era: wooden floors, penny-candy cases, benches, and a potbellied stove. The only change to the gable-fronted building has been the conversion of the upstairs space from an apartment and Odd Fellows Hall to a stained glass gallery. Down the street, the Coolspring Power Museum holds 250 internal combustion engines that illustrate 115 years of the machine's development.
