1992, Michael Marquez. 333 Castle Dr., 3.3 miles southwest of West Newton

This enormous 17,000-square-foot gray stone and stucco house dominates a hilltop in an area of modest suburban houses. The sprawling postmodern design, by Los Angeles architect Michael Marquez, uses the typical Queen Anne vocabulary of historical elements, such as turrets, towers, quoins, multiple chimneys, conical roofs, and a porte-cochere. Large gates further distinguish the house from its neighbors overlooking the Willowbrook Golf Course. The name “Bel Ange” merges the hometowns of the original owners, Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, and Los Angeles, California.
