Long after serpentinite had fallen out of favor with Philadelphia architects, it was still used at West Chester, including for this cubic classroom building crowned by a great pyramidal roof. The tiny hints of Gothic in the cornice are the sole reflections of its architect's personality and demonstrate that state funding rarely achieved memorable design.
