At numbers 27–33 School Street is what remains of the so-called Green Mill, a piece of one of the earliest clapboard textile mill buildings on the site. It was reduced to half of its 120foot length when it was moved up the hill to accommodate successor buildings and converted to workers' apartments. One can still sense its two-story scale, the rhythm of its windows, and its gable-top monitor—now immured in aluminum siding. Farther along on the same side, at numbers 55–75, are four mansarded duplexes, also re-sided and much more altered, yet still providing a good sense of what they were.
