Mrs. James C. Porter House (Porter Villa, Old Castle)
One of several stone mansions built in the 1850s by Seth Bradford as Newport summer residences, this was commissioned by a Louisiana woman. The rough texture of the Fall River granite over most of its surface is differentiated by the flat-cut trim work of the entry projection and window surrounds, whose forms, like those of the bracketed eaves, imply Italianate inspiration.
