Built for a retired tavernkeeper, this was one of five houses chosen to represent Rhode Island in the 1933 Historic American Buildings Survey, which initiated this important national program. The doorway, with full pilasters supporting a cushioned frieze and a finely molded pediment, is typical of the 1780s and 1790s. The house has extremely fine paneled interiors.
